John Dewey

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered ,active, learning theory in which students learn about a subject through the experience of creating a problem. Students learn both thinking strategies and domain knowledge. The instructor facilitates learning by supporting, guiding, and monitoring the learning process.

 

Goals of PBL:

  • Develop flexible knowledge

  • Develop effective problem solving skills

 

Characteristics of PBL:

  • Challenging scenarios with no one correct answer

  • Context-specific cases

  • Self-directed learning

  • Collaborative environment

  • Intrinsic motivation

 

Advantages of PBL:
Develops critical thinking skills

Improves problem solving skills

Transferable to new situations
